I am a new seller (first posted items last week) on TpT and am finding it worth the effort as I have made a little bit of money so far (they pay you quarterly though). I have posted mainly things that I had already made for my classroom. I also posted a couple of things that I am making for my room this year. I think that until you get a great rating/lots of followers, I would not spend a lot of effort making things for others that you would not use. I hope that helps
