I just can't help but see the timing of this (along with SOPA and PIPA and ACTA) as another black-flag operation to take internet freedoms away. Just like the Patriot Act and NDAA are eroding physical freedoms.
I also strongly disagree with the arresting and extraditing them to the USA.
More on SOPA here which I feel will be snuck through without the publics knowledge as there was outrage the 1st time.
I think as the world gets smaller, there are some issues that no one is prepared for. With the internet and modern technology it has become very small very fast.
I have always been very aware of copywrite laws. In public schools, we are often reminded. There have been college students charged (fined) thousands of dollars for downloading music illegally.
I don't know anything about Megaupload, but it sounds as if they are stealing money from artists. I don't care what country arrests and charges these people, but stealing is stealing.

Anyone else keeping an eye on this? It is chilling to me that the USA can just arrest these guys and seize assets and extradite them to the USA.
I was concerned about SOPA and PIPA and now ACTA but seeing this Megaupload thing happen I feel it won't matter if ACTA passes as they are going to do whatever they want.
