Henry's freedom box is great! I've read to kinders but also to older kids, too.

I have not read the books mentioned, however I want to follow the thread to get ideas for good reads during Black History Month. I haven't found one that I am truly obsessed with yet, but I am sure one of you guys will help me in that direction.

Thanks I worried that my little ones might be scared by the heavy topics related to slavery.

I absolutely love "Martin's Big Words" by Doreen Rappaport. It's one of my favorite read alouds.

I have read My Name is Truth and think it would be a good story for your read alouds as well. Haven't read the other title.

Has anyone ever read the books My Name is Truth: The Life of Sojourner Truth or Henry's Freedom Box: a true story from the underground railroad? Curious if they are good read alouds for first and second grade during Black History Month. Does anyone have a favorite book for this theme? Thanks
