I need help! I have been pulling fluency groups and playing games like Who Has? and echo reading, etc. I have been pulling comprehension strategy groups and reteaching the strategies and giving the students time to apply them with their own books.

I need some ideas for accuracy groups! They are all working on their own books, and they are all using different strategies depending on the word they are stuck on/book they are reading! Not sure what to do. I am new at this and conferring is my number 1 challenge. (of course, the most important part!)

Thanks.

Here are a list of articles that will sum up why I'm not a fan of the three cueing system. Please read Marilyn Jager Adams article (last link). What's interesting is 99% of teachers probably have been trained how to use the three cueing system as a way for children to decode words. I bet less than 1% of teachers have actually read the following articles about this system.

Could you clarify what you mean by "not a huge fan ....such as three cuing system"? and why do you think it's a faulty system?

I'm new at the daily 5 as well. For accuracy I still focus on spelling patterns primarily rather than "strategies" per say. My students can use "flip the sound" and go back and reread, but I still feel that the focus should be on teaching spelling patterns even during minilessons. I'm not a huge fan of "balanced reading" ideas such as the three cueing system - I think many of the accuracy strategies (even from the CAFE) are based on this faulty notion that children use three cues as a way to figure out words. I try to focus on the spelling patterns that they are having difficulty with during accuracy lessons.
