Yes, you do have to recertify. It isn't a state requirement, rather a NB requirement. The certificate is good for 10 years. They'll send you the recert info in your 9th year and then you can recertify then with an option of re-doing if you don't pass, or wait til the 10th year and pray you pass with only one shot!!

So prepare yourself if you plan to recertify but it isn't as hard as the initial process. However, it does cost $1150 so that's the other real issue during these hard financial times!!

Thanks anyway for your info.

Yes you have to do a video and write up your new professional accomplishments....I have a friend that did hers last year (her 8th year into the cycle) and said it wasn't as bad as the initial portfolio, but I have anxiety about the whole thing when I think about it. Go to the nbpts site and download the requirements. There should be someone in your district that you can go to for questions that has gone through it. I think it will help you. Best of luck to you!

I didn't even know we had to do this....I am not sure whether or not we have to in my state.
That's pretty unusual...but sounds pretty neat.
I make video tapes of myself teaching certain lessons...depending on what it might be. Sometimes they are for documentation of behaviors of certain students. They all fill out a waiver form at the beginning of the class to be on the video and that it will be used for educational purposes, etc...etc...

I was just wondering if anyone has completed their 10-yr RECERTIFICATION process for National Boards?? I am recertifying this year, as I opted not to do it last year. You are given your 9th and 10th year to complete the process, but when you do it in the 10th you only get one shot at it. I have been reassured by someone on another educator networking site that there's nothing to worry about and it's much easier than the first time for certification.

If anyone has completed the process successfully, please share your opinions. I'm not sure if I want to do the videotape of me working with colleagues or submit a student work sample. We are given that option and I am leaning towards the video but could really go either way. Please share if you have any suggestions on this process. Thank you very much!!
