I just sent an e-mail to our sub coordinator asking if their are any restrictions on how late teachers can change subs. I strongly suspect the answer is no, but i wanted to make a point.

We are locked out of jobs the next day if we need to cancel past 6 PM. Teachers should be locked out from changing subs past a certain time as well, at least for the first of the four days.

Yesterday I got lucky. I lost 50 dollars, but then gained $125

I picked up a job yesterday just five minutes before class started. I called to tell them I was leaving in a few minutes, but they told me they gave it to someone else. Had I not called to tell them I was leaving, they would have payed me $50 for showing up.
Then 20 minutes later I got an easy late job. Had I just showed up, I would not have known of the late job, so it worked out well.

Yes I had that happen last week. They called back admitting they put in a retired teacher and now she can't make it so they wanted me back....

We get paid 40% day just for showing up, but even if the job is cancelled that same morning, we get nothing if we do not show up at the site.

It might be in the contract for a district you sub in. Once I was really bored at a job and read some of the contract and was surprised to find out that a teacher could cancel a sub job for any reason as long as it was an hour before reporting time. I would still get paid the half day, but they had the right to do it.

I hate that crap. A long term job went up last year for the last month and half of school for my subject area, and of course they canceled it. I even emailed the sect and they never wrote me back. If a teacher cancels a multi day job there should be a requirement for them to email you an explanation. A few teachers have done that and I appreciated it.

I hope that is the case, but I am annoyed at the possibility she cancelled to get her preferred sub.

If this is the case, it should not be allowed past 6 PM the night before, since we are locked out if we cancel after 6 PM

I am sitting home today, and the reason is probably because all the job offers went out during the six hours I had this bogus job.

Oh man, that stinks, Sirsubalot. Maybe something came up and the teacher legitimately had to cancel the job, but itís still annoying. Hope the rest of the year is better.

Welcome back to another school year.

Yep, don't feel bad about cancelling back in the future.

This summer I had to cancel the morning of a summer school job because my car wouldn't start up. I received sympathy from my sub agency, but not the school itself.

Oh well. Not sure what the school wanted me to do? Take a taxi and show up two hours later after AAA arrived? Lol.

Well, let's hope it's a good school year, regardless of our current annoyances.

School started today and I was delighted to get a job, but even more delighted to get a four day job the rest of the week this afternoon. Now they just cancelled it. I sure shouldn't feel guilty canceling on them for something better.
