It's free! You set up an account. The passages are leveled with Lexile. So you can search a topic, theme, or skill and then find leveled texts to match. I prefer the informational text vs. literary.
There is an online component which I've never used. The question sets are typically very good.

But I wanted to add-it works really well with google classroom.

You can import you class list from GC and students log in with google.

You can see who has and who hasnt completed their work at glance

You can set assignments with due dates and post the assignment to your GC.

You can differentiate and assign different kids different passages, the same passage but allow "listen to" options for select student on many passages, add vocabulary work with words in the passage for selected students to give them an extra challenge, ect.

I only wish it imported grades to google classroom. As is I have to get grades from readwords and then manually input them into google classroom-it only take a few minutes, but I still wish it was instant

I think you can roadworks even with Lucy Calkins. We don't use Lucy Calkins, but I've used her before in my last district. Readworks articles can be used for guided reading. I also like the roadworks article a day. This is something I have my students as morning work usually, sometimes during our reading time when I'm pulling groups.

I love Readworks. As PP mentioned, it is free. I created my own account and one account for each of my students. Each week I assign a couple articles for them to read and answer questions about. I use this resource as a supplement to homework. Also, it is a good practice for the state tests as many questions are MC, short answer and extended responses ones.
