I go back Aug. 6. Looking like a guinea pig for sure.

We go back Aug. 1st (or whatever the 1st weekday in Aug. is). I suppose we are the guinnea pigs, but I also believe that we "have" to give it a try...but I know I'm in the minority in my thinking.

For some reason, I am not too worried. I think that has to do with my just focusing on the present and not "what may be". That is out of my control.

We are going back the third week in August. I have to admit I am scared. As of right now we are going back full force. All students in the classroom 5 days per week. Students will not be wearing masks and will sit two to a seat on the bus. There is no possible way to socially distance them in the room. I am in a state with rapidly increasing numbers. I can only hope the people making these decisions are consulting with medical staff and not just listening to the politicians. There are over 700 in my elementary building alone.

My district in suburban Chicago area starts on August 19th as well. They want us to start gradually them by September 14th have everyone at school every day with modifications. This makes me nervous that we would only be in the hybrid model for three weeks then bring everyone back. Our numbers have been low due to our governorís great phased re-opening plan, but that can change.

My school is in SC, and itís a small parochial school. My P was on the diocesan committee and made sure to include medical experts in infectious disease in the school reopening team.

My P has always put safely first, of both staff and students. I trust him to keep us safe.

DH thinks no matter what, we will be closed again by November. Time will tell.

As we think about and prepare for the start of school during a pandemic, I can't help but think that some of you are going to be the national guinea pigs. In the Northeast we don't return until the start of September, almost a month after some other parts of the country. I keep thinking that we're going to have the benefit of your experiences and we'll be watching to see if you have school-based outbreaks. This thought impacts my thinking about my own return because it actually makes me feel a little safer. If schools across the country open with minimal incidents I'll have more confidence returning. If there are multiple outbreaks and significant disruptions I trust my governor to take appropriate action. So I wonder about those of you who are going back relatively soon. How comfortable or worried are you? Do you feel like you have any recourse at all?
