I'm loving this thread!

luvtulearn 09-29-2016 10:22 PM

And the best is yet to come

AZteacher74 09-24-2016 06:13 PM

There's always tomorrow.

I refuse to die while doing this job.

vttraveler 09-24-2016 05:54 PM

Only _ more days until _ break!

Thank God for Snow Days! I hope we have some this year. Last year was brutal!

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Keep it simple.
Less is more.

I need to build a bridge, and then get over it! and This too shall pass.

yellowflowers 09-23-2016 08:56 PM

"Close enough."

"It just doesn't matter."

Shell 09-23-2016 08:04 PM

Give it three years and it will change again.

I teach students not curriculum.

Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. (I feel like Mary Poppins this year managing the multiple meltdowns in my room.)

It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

They are only five. They are only five.

VivianCP 09-23-2016 05:22 PM

On a REALLY bad day, I will stop in my tracks, bow my head, close my eyes & silently pray, "God, give me patience!" The kids usually shape up at that because I don't do it often. Sometimes, for dramatic effect, I do it out loud. That really gets 'em. And it definitely gives me a moment to step back from the edge!

I've also used, "It is what it is." and Let it go...Let it go...

But I'm particularly liking, "Not my circus..." these days.

happygal 09-22-2016 08:19 PM

In all things do not be anxious - the Bible

That isn't about me... (Don't take anything personally)

This kid needs my support. (Especially the annoying, unlikable, mean, misfit)

I am doing my best right now

Say it with kindness

Enjoy every breath

I'm lucky to be here!

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13

Also--the ever popular "Not my circus, not my monkeys."

Summerwillcom 09-22-2016 06:48 AM

1 This is a 1st World problem.
2. Would it matter if tomorrow never came?

brooks56 09-22-2016 06:28 AM

I love these quotes already listed. One of my favorites: "You can't get blood out of a turnip"

GeminiTwin 09-21-2016 06:00 PM

My grade level team has a saying - "Tomorrow is another day."

apple annie 09-21-2016 05:41 PM

When I'm asked to do something and I need or want to say NO, especially from my students (like extra recess, watch a video, have treats, etc.)

"Sorry, that's on the lesson plan."

midwestread 09-21-2016 03:26 PM

..let me know how that works out for you."

calumetteach 09-21-2016 02:37 PM

Calm and kind

Simple to remember...not always to implement.

Anonymousey 09-21-2016 01:56 PM

I just want to say that I've been coming back to this post at least twice a day to remind myself of all these awesome sayings!!

And while talking with a colleague about so much more required work that we agree can never be put on one human's plate, today she said "Well then they can fire me. I'm sure they'd find a line of people waiting to take my place. Not!"

Mrs. S. 09-21-2016 01:42 PM

"I can only do what I can do. Nothing is more important than the instructional needs of my students."

I have a few things written on index cards on my desk so that I find them often and remind myself to stay focused on the important stuff.

"Water on a duck. Let it roll right off."

"They leave at 3:30."

Lucinda 09-21-2016 10:27 AM

You have to love what you do and do it wholeheartedly. When this stops, the stress begins to build-up.

binkbonk 09-21-2016 02:50 AM

Not my circus, not my monkeys.

Newbielibro 09-20-2016 09:09 PM

I remind myself that I do well, and my studentslove me. And I can do anything fir two hours.

LuBelle 09-20-2016 07:56 PM

I know several others share that quote with me. I often heard it from an older teacher who I admired so much. Long after she was gone I repeated it to my peers and mentees. It was comforting and TRUE!

bookbadger 09-20-2016 06:37 PM

This too shall pass

All children have the ability to learn but not in the same way or on the same day

GoodTimzRoll 09-20-2016 05:38 PM

My two favorites: Keep calm and pretend that it's on the lesson plan! You can't make a dollar out of seventy-five cents!

1stTeacherPF 09-20-2016 05:26 PM

This isn't a saying or quote but I post pictures and letters given to me by students and parents that are encouraging to me. I look at them and read them when I feel stressed and like a failure!

CatLove 09-20-2016 05:25 PM

Your lack of organization isn't my emergency!

ElemSped13 09-20-2016 05:20 PM

The two I say the most to remind myself are

It is what it is.
Every day is a new start.

I also love the quote - Be the change you want to see in the world.

Eccj 09-20-2016 05:14 PM

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Ruby tunes 09-20-2016 05:13 PM

Let go, and let God...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

This, too, shall pass.

mrstchr 09-20-2016 05:11 PM

You've got this!
It is what it is.

TeacherMeg 09-20-2016 03:55 PM

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

ferrioni 09-20-2016 03:53 PM

mommy9298 09-20-2016 03:50 PM

Let it go and It is what it is.

Crazy3 09-20-2016 03:36 PM

Mine too. Except they are my circus and my monkeys. Help me now.

GdHrtdTchr 09-20-2016 12:58 PM

Haven't heard "...good enuf" in years.
'Made me laugh.
Thanks for sharing.
I dunno which I miss more:
The old SNLs?
Having the energy to stay up late on a Saturday night?

FLTeach73 09-20-2016 12:15 PM

I also say "Not my circus not my monkeys" quite frequently!

MrDes 09-20-2016 04:18 AM

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dog gone it, people like me.

Teach4 09-20-2016 02:25 AM

Change your attitude, change the day.

It's not always easy to do but I have come to realize that my attitude is the biggest factor in how our day will go.

kinderlake 09-19-2016 07:37 PM

Not my circus...then I realize they ARE my monkeys!!. We sing "let it go" a lot this year...andnd my new favorite...What's one more? When o find out I'm getting a new add to my current 28 kinders!!

eagles23 09-19-2016 07:11 PM

I sing "Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow..." when I am having a bad day. Reminds me tomorrow is a brand new day!

maui 09-19-2016 07:00 PM

Just get through each hour at a time!!

krazykaye 09-19-2016 06:55 PM

What will be will be.

Not my circus not my monkeys.

It could always be worse.

You smile and the world smiles with you. You cry, you cry alone. (This keeps me from having pity parties)

amiga13 09-19-2016 06:39 PM

It's good enough.

sportsmom88 09-19-2016 06:19 PM

What is the worst that can happen?

JulieG04 09-19-2016 06:11 PM

I always remind myself that the work will be waiting for me later, or tomorrow, or whenever. It's not going anywhere, but maybe I am!

Coopsgrammy 09-19-2016 05:59 PM

"Ah, $4!, I'm going to bed." Yes, that is where I am tonight Tomorrow is another day.

tctrojan 09-19-2016 05:36 PM

Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my part.

mooseman 09-19-2016 05:28 PM

Welcome to my circus, those are my monkeys.
Usually the crazy is mine and I have to own it. (Like now when I should be prepping but am on PT instead).

Song of Joy 09-19-2016 05:16 PM

Excellence is not the same as perfection.

LovethatMouse 09-19-2016 05:14 PM

I constantly remind myself, "I'm here for the students, not the adults."

Worry is like a rocking chair:

It keeps you real busy, but you don't get anywhere.

travelingafar 09-19-2016 04:49 PM

Not my circus, not my monkeys. This helps me stay out of situations that don't involve me at school.

rana712 09-19-2016 04:47 PM

From Hamilton:

Talk less, smile more
Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for.

Particularly good when going to meetings with admin's who don't listen to reason! Better than saying something negative.

apple annie 09-19-2016 04:35 PM

1. They're only mine for nine months.

2. Let it go... Let it go...

3. "At least I have air conditioning." (This is what I say now all the time since Ive been reading the DOZENS of posts from teachers working in buildings with no a/c, which, IMO is inhuman and totally blows my nind.

Teddi9192 09-19-2016 04:23 PM

texteach55 09-19-2016 04:17 PM

"Just smile and nod"

Ilvtching 09-19-2016 03:37 PM's been...what are they going to do? Fire me????

Savvy 09-19-2016 03:04 PM

"I can only do so much." Or "forget this!"

TeacherPK6 09-19-2016 03:02 PM

"Just keep swimming"

Mshope 09-19-2016 02:44 PM

I think of that illustration by Mary Engelbreit that says, "I'm in charge here!" I don't know why but it kind of makes me laugh.

Sometimes I also silently repeat, "It's not worth it. Stay calm. Shut your mouth." Ha, the last one is usually during meetings.

Then, "Nod, smile, ignore." If I talk, I always either make myself more work or regret it.

historyguy88 09-19-2016 02:44 PM

My favorite:

"On to the next"

If I have a bad class or a tough interaction with a student it really helps me.

GdHrtdTchr 09-19-2016 02:39 PM

As others have shared, "This too shall pass."

I think God understands.

I am blessed.

Someone else's lack of planning should not be my cause for emergency.

It's worth is to me to ___ (spend X or do Y) to ____ (have kids learn, or appease so & so).

I know I'm making a difference.

This is going to make me stronger and...

What doesn't kill me makes me stronger

all41 09-19-2016 02:32 PM

I tend to hum the chorus 'what doesn't kill me makes stronger' or 'I will survive' ....

Gifted 09-19-2016 02:24 PM

Will this matter tomorrow?

opal4 09-19-2016 01:33 PM

...Lord, make me an instrument of your peace...

And so on. It's especially helpful when I feel myself losing patience.

CricketSpecEd 09-19-2016 01:30 PM

I am practicing saying "No."

DodgersFan 09-19-2016 01:29 PM

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This helped even when it seemed I had to do all things at the same time!

jazzer 09-19-2016 12:47 PM

Another one that can apply to any area of life is

It is better to try and fail then to not try and always wonder what could have been.

I added to it, but I think that is A good thing to remember.

Catdog12 09-19-2016 12:34 PM

My DH gave me this one after listening to all I had to do:

"Nothing is impossible for he who doesn't have to do it." meaning admin. would just keep on piling it on so just do what I could do.

Anonymousey 09-19-2016 12:26 PM

I've been known to look myself in the mirror and say.....

Acknowledge the fact that you'll never please every single customer.

There will always be those who can't function without negativity. Work your best with them and stay positive.

Remember that you have already racked up plenty of success stories.

You are only one person.

AX Pendergast 09-19-2016 12:17 PM

...depending on the day.

From Max Ehrmann's "Desiderata:"

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

From the National Lampoon's Parody of same, called "Deteriarata:"

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.
broomrider 09-19-2016 12:12 PM

If this is the worst thing that happens, I've got a pretty good life.

I've had reasonable luck with telling admin:
Someone else should have this opportunity. :-)

I also like the way DH sent me off to work: "Enjoy your day."

aly7123 09-19-2016 11:51 AM

"Look for something positive in each day, even if some days you have to look a little harder." - This was emailed to us the other week by one of our union reps. It came on an especially hard day so I really appreciated it.

teacher4 09-19-2016 11:38 AM

This too shall pass.

ILoveMyCello 09-19-2016 11:36 AM

"I'm sorry, that won't work for me"
"I'm sorry, what would you like me to do?"

Travelngal 09-19-2016 09:52 AM

"Not my circus, not my monkeys" also if I don't do this, what's the worst that will happen?

SweetTchr 09-19-2016 09:49 AM

5 hours until a glass of wine
4 hours until a glass of wine
3 hours until a glass of wine
2 hours until a glass of wine....

Do the best you can, then accept what is...

LOVE not my circus, not my monkeys but sadly is always seems to be my monkeys

Keltikmom 09-19-2016 04:57 AM

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it's the little voice in your head that says "I will try again tomorrow."

arsabl 09-19-2016 04:54 AM

"Do your best every day."

My best one day will be different the next day due to a variety of factors.

Lakeside 09-19-2016 01:25 AM

Mine is:

"I can do anything for a day."

As a sub, it gives me patience with individual students or situations that I'm sure would be harder to muster if I knew I was going to have to keep it up all year.

pausebutton 09-19-2016 01:13 AM

Please share a saying or quote that helps you to keep your stress level down as a teacher.

Here are some of my favorites:

- Asking myself "What would happen if I didn't do this?"

- Saying "That's not my top priority" instead of "I don't have time for that"
