What about Henry and Mudge? There are a ton of I Can Read level one chapter books out there.

The Mercy Watson series by Kate DiCamillo is great!

I thought of a few more

Pinky and Rex
Amelia Bedelia though they might not get the word play
Fancy Nancy

Biscuit is good, but possibly too easy.

I'm no longer in my classroom to see what I used to use. I vaguely remember a series called Boris.

Try searching the Scholastic site by book level.

I often start with Frog and Toad and Little Bear, as they are definitely on the easier side for chapter books.

Fluffy the classroom guinea pig series was always a hit with my beginning readers.

Hi!

I have two students who are ready for beginner chapter books. I know of the Frog and Toad series but am wondering if anyone could recommend any other good books at that level? Thank you!
