Thank you for your response. Since you have experience on the other side, Can I ask you specifically what you’re looking for in the demo, what the candidate can do to totally ruin their chances, and at this point, is the lesson the only thing that matters in choosing the one person or do you still factor in previous interview and resume?

Based on what you said, I’d say I did fairly well. They said the one they choose would have to meet with the principal (she’s been on jury duty), and they’d let said person know this week. Would they call references before choosing, or is it possible to call them later (which seems strange).

For my school, we only ask our top candidates to do a demo lesson, so generally 2-4 candidates.

We look to see if the lesson plan is appropriate for the age group, if the candidate introduces themself to the children and tries to make a connection, how are they at redirecting when students get off task, so they follow the lesson plan - or adapt it on the fly if needed, are the students engaged, etc. As for how you could blow it - if your lesson was totally off base for students it is presented to, or made no attempt to connect with the students, or just lost it. Or if what you presented bore little resemblance to what your plans indicated.

Again, at my school, the candidates still have to meet with our Superintendent and P for another round of question, so we take that into account as well.

After our candidates do their demo lesson, we do not give feedback. They leave, and then the interview team evaluates the demo and discusses.

So I had my demo yesterday. It went ok, not as well as I hoped. (There was a child not engaged and talking a bit, and I don’t think I handled it as well as I would have if it were my actual class and 4 strangers weren’t watching me. You could tell this is probably this child’s demeanor normally. He was very low.) Afterward, we went to another room and they asked me a couple of questions. They then asked if I had any. They didn’t give any if their feedback on the lesson. Should I have asked them for some? I thought right afterward that I should have. Or, maybe they weren’t too impressed, and that is why I didn’t get any??? This was my first demo lesson. Any feedback would be appreciated. TY!
