I lost $250 dollars three years ago because our district must have " forgotten" to send out the memos explaining how sick pay works. I lost the money because I did not accept jobs I knew I would need to cancel. I filled out a petition for the money to personnel and I lost.

Make sure you are already booked for the days you need off so you have a job to cancel.

In NJ, you dont show up, you dont get paid. No sick day pay.

Ours works the same as Sublime. I had the first 2 days of school booked and I had to cancel due to a dental emergency. I believe I have 8 days I need to use by the end of the year or I’ll lose them.

Same as all above, except: my pay stub doesn't say the correct number of hours so if I want to take sick time I call the sub desk to find out exactly how many hours I do have. We get 1 hour sick pay for every 30 hours worked. One day subbing is considered 6 hours. Also, I only have to cancel on Aesop with the excuse of illness and write the sick hours on my time sheet. No extra paperwork.

Yes, HR should tell the procedures/steps to follow
In my district one needed to give the details/ name of teacher and date/school of an assignment and state why it was not accepted.

Don't wait until the very last day to claim it you might not be able to carry all of it over to the next year.

Check with Hr. One district I am in will only let you use it for “a doctor or dentist” visit that was unplanned. You cancel the job and fill out an online form. They made every attempt to hide this option and avoid paying until the union stepped in. Even now, the language is confusing.

Another district will let you use it for any reason, but you must actually accept a job an Aesop and cancel it before 24 hours. Basically both districts try as hard as they can to avoid paying out anything when they should be forced to pay out at the end of the year for any sick time not used.

My pay stub indicates X number of hours leave time. Does this mean the respective district grants a sub sick or leave time when he/she puts in for it?
