Do you prefer to vacation early or late in the summer? actually mid summer after our vegetable garden is growing but doesn't need as much maintenance. I like to also spend some quality at home the first month or so. We do some biking weekend get-aways though.

Do you travel by plane, car, RV, or something else?
car

Do you prefer short trips close to home, explore the US, or travel outside of the country? both (close and far from home) , we alternate years. Long road trips every 4-5 years. We're waiting now til retirement though and will plan a big one!

Are your vacations active, relaxing, or a mix of both? Definitely a mix of both. We plan some r and r but still need to be active each day (hiking, biking, touring, swimming)

Do you prefer to vacation early or late in the summer? I prefer on the earlier side. When I am coming home from vacation I am already depressed. Why make it worse by coming back a week or two before I have to return to school?

Do you travel by plane, car, RV, or something else? Usually by car, once in awhile by plane.

Do you prefer short trips close to home, explore the US, or travel outside of the country? We often do short trips close to home (within about 4 hours or less) but sometimes visit other parts of the country as well.

Are your vacations active, relaxing, or a mix of both? Usually both

I prefer car and relaxing. I also prefer not too many people. Myself, DH and kids only.or me and kids only. I can't get too peoply in a small space.

MissTrace 06-13-2019 11:14 AM

1. No preference, just whatever works for our schedules.

2. Plane or car, depending on the trip. If we have the time and the weather is cooler, we drive so the dog can come, too. We dream of having a little RV to take on road trips with the dog but havenít done an RV trip yet.

3. All of the above!

4. We lean toward a more active vacation. I tend to want to see and do as much as possible. We do some easy hiking and walk a lot when we visit a new city.

I stay home during the summer because I donít like crowds.

Plane due to time constraints. I prefer car trips

I like to go midweek for 3-4 days if vacationing close to home. If I fly I prefer to stay 3-4 weeks.

Relaxing. I enjoy time to do absolutely nothing

cvt 06-13-2019 10:08 AM

I'm retired, so I will go whenever there is an opportunity to do so. I prefer not to travel to tourist destinations during school breaks as I dislike crowds and the higher costs. I worked at a year-round school which was great because it was outside of the regular school vacations.

I do a mix of car and air travel.

I like to go everywhere, short trips close to home, road trips across the US, and foreign travel. I am also a low budget traveler, but I notice that I don't do so well anymore on very long flights (17+ hours) in economy class.

I am a super active traveler. The last thing I want to do is stay at a luxury resort and lie down by the pool with a drink and a cabana boy applying sunscreen. I also cannot deal with bus tours. If I visit a city, domestic or foreign, I will know the ins and outs of that city within days, walking, using public transportation, visiting museums, parks, neighborhoods, back alleys, concerts, meeting locals, etc. After a week I could be a tour guide in that city.

For outdoorsy stuff I'd be up for long day hikes-- although I no longer backpack because I do like my comforts--bouldering and (easy) rock climbing, peak bagging, car camping, national park visits, kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA, etc.

My vacation has changed over time.

When we were first married we did car trips and stayed in motels. DH worked a place that closed down for vacation so that was when we took our vacation.

Then the kids came along, money was tight, so we tried camping and loved it. We started with a tent, graduated to a tent trailer, and then reverted to a tent. We vacationed summers and school vacations.

Then it was just the two of us again. We drove and stayed in hotels. We few, rented a car, drove and stayed in hotels. We still went summers and school vacations.

Now we do tours. Get on the bus, or fly and get on the bus, and let someone else handle the details. Although we can go anytime, we prefer to go while school is in session.

We've done both USA and foreign trips. This year it's one of each.

GHVFAN 06-13-2019 07:19 AM

We take a vacation to the beach in mid September, and our children, grandchildren join us midweek.

Travel by car, but with lots of stops.

Explore the U.S.

A combination

1956BD 06-13-2019 06:28 AM

Since I retired I will travel away from home any time of year.

I love road trips but sometimes you just have to fly to reach your destination.

Normally we are gone 7 to 10 days. After that period of time I miss home.

My vacations are active. Going to the beach and sitting under and umbrella reading is not my idea of a vacation. I go to see scenery like the Redwoods, Niagara and Grand Canyon. I also enjoy visiting big cities to soak up the culture. I can rest when I get home.

ICrazyTeach 06-13-2019 06:07 AM

We usually travel around July 4. DH gets a "free" day to add to the trip.

We usually drive. I haven't flown in 17 years.

We take short trips throughout the year--day trips or overnight. We take one beach trip each year (10-12 hour drive). I would prefer to teavel outside the country.

Mostly relaxing! But we do some hiking and exploring here and there.

SusanTeach 06-13-2019 05:54 AM

1. I prefer early in the summer. When it gets later, I start getting back into the school-mode.

2. Lately, by plane. When the kids were younger, we traveled by car (mostly because we didn't have the money to fly). I'm not a fan of cruises. I had more fun on the excursions than the cruise itself. Probably due to my answer to #4.

3. I prefer close to home or within the U.S. I don't want to spend a big part of my time on the plane.

4. Definitely active! I can relax at home. I want to explore the sights when I'm in a new place.

motbteach 06-13-2019 05:47 AM

1. Short trips early, a bigger trip in August.

2. We only travel on motorcycles in the summer.

3. Explore the U.S. - there's a reason our national parks are where they are... Gorgeous!!!

4. Mix- we go, see, do - but at a leisurely pace usually. One time we rode over 700 miles in a day & I was not a happy camper.

travelingfar 06-13-2019 05:46 AM

My answer is yes to all the questions.

MAsped 06-13-2019 05:40 AM

Never really think about when in the summer. Whatever our schedule allows.

I've done cruise, plane, and car, but not really RV.

Lately, been doing 2-4=day trips, but I love weeklong ones, which I'm long overdue for!

I guess leaning more on relaxing. For the most part, I don't really do any kind of sports, hiking, camping, anyway.

Haley23 06-13-2019 05:32 AM

1. No preference

2. Plane if at all possible. I've never gotten the "fun" of road trips. I don't like being in the car or taking forever to get somewhere, plus there is ALWAYS a traffic jam or construction when driving long distances.

3. I've mostly gone to places in the US I hadn't seen before. I took a cruise with a friend a couple of summers ago to some places outside of the US. We originally were looking into Europe, but the price tag was just way too big.

4. Typically active, but I like to try to find a balance. I went to Vegas a few years ago and my friends were too cheap to pay for cabs, so we walked and walked and walked and walked. I wish I'd had my fitbit, because I swear it must have been 50,000 steps a day. Even though it was just a weekend trip, by the 3rd/last day my feet hurt so badly that it was all I could think about- just constant radiating pain even when we finally sat down. I've never been that miserable in my life. On the other hand, when we did the cruise we had a lot of "at sea" days and I was kind of bored with just laying by the pool and such, although I'd pick that over the walking for miles. I guess I'm picky! I'd like to do something every day, but not run ragged.

Do you prefer to vacation early or late in the summer?

Early but Iíll go any time.

Do you travel by plane, car, RV, or something else?

Yes. I guess not an RV specifically but a trailer.

Do you prefer short trips close to home, explore the US, or travel outside of the country?

All of the above. It depends on schedule and budget

Are your vacations active, relaxing, or a mix of both?

If it were solely up to me, 100% active. DH likes relaxing. So itís a mix.

wildflowerz 06-13-2019 04:57 AM

Do you prefer to vacation early or late in the summer? Before retiring I wouldn’t take a trip before July 4. I preferred late, late summer so it was still fresh in my mind when school started.

Do you travel by plane, car, RV, or something else? RV- Dh and I took one road trip together in a car, it wasn’t fun. Road tripping in an RV is much more pleasant!

Do you prefer short trips close to home, explore the US, or travel outside of the country? We travel the US as well as going on a few beach trips. We live just a couple hours from the beach.

Are your vacations active, relaxing, or a mix of both? I prefer active, dh likes to relax. We try to balance hiking, biking, and touring with reading and relaxing.
