How about City of Ember?? It deals with electricity. i read it to my 4th graders and they loved the book. If you google it, there's an entire website w/ questions and lessons you can use.

The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory Science in Literature list (http://www.magnet.fsu.edu/education/...pterbooks.html) contains 3 books you might consider. The Secret Life of Dilly McBean is about a boy with magnetic hands. Orwell's Luck includes an explanation of MRIs as compared to X-rays. It also discusses experimental design for a science fair project and animal behavior. The Golden Compass discusses magnetic vs. geographic north. It also includes navigation and celestial geography.

The Unusual Mind of Vincent Shadow? I haven't read it, but have a colleague that loves it.

or

So You Want to Be an Inventor. This book focuses on real inventors like Ben Franklin.

Oooh, good point! They're 4th graders (almost 5th graders) and it's a very bright group!

I'm looking for a science related read aloud (preferably fiction) to read for our next unit. The unit focuses on inventors/innovators while exploring magnetism and electricity.

Any ideas?
