Cam Jansen mysteries

Magic Treehouse fantasy series

Magic Treehouse Research Guides (nonfiction)

If you read both of the Magic Treehouse books together the kids really get a clear idea of the difference between fiction and nonfiction. Plus they can begin to make text to text connections. We use

Afternoon on the Amazon & Rainforest

Midnight on the Moon & Space

Freckle Juice realistic fiction

Aliens For Breakfast science fiction

Sarah Plain and Tall historical fiction

Stone Fox I consider this book a first survival novel.

Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days is a humorous read.

Chocolate Touch fantasy (version of The Midas Touch)

The Chalkboard Kid realistic fiction

Love using Judy Moody, Book #1 to start the year. The ME COLLAGE is perfect as the first project after the book is read/shared. After that, we read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. This year we are joining Global Read Aloud for the first time. I am really looking forward to the experience.

Judy Moody is in a Mood is a great beginning of the year book since she's a third grader starting school. The kids (boys and girls) all love it. Each child does a "me collage" afterwards, too - just like Judy does.

I like The Boxcar Children later because it's not a book the kids would pick up and they all really loved it. It also hooked a few into reading more in the series.

I always read Stone Fox at the beginning of the year & The Mouse and the Motorcycle later. You can't go wrong!
