I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up, but I just learned this today...
Many veterinarians are still seeing pet patients. Many of those offices have the pet owner call the office as soon as they arrive. They will then send out an associate to bring the pet inside while the pet parent waits in the car. I am unsure of how they handle payment, but I imagine that varies by office

My vet does emergencies only including euthanasia and medicine refills. Like others, you call when you get there and our vet takes credit card info over the phone. No new furry, finny, or feathery patients unless emergency.

My son has to get hi two cats in for their rabies shots before he can bring them to his new apartment. Thanks for the info.

Had meds picked for Ginger by my dad. When I called for the refill she told me to call when he got there and they would come out with meds.I paid for the meds over the phone when I first called. My vet is open with reduced hours but are still taking pets.

That's exactly what my vet is now doing. When all of this started I requested an extra refill of my cat's medication just in case things got worse or I got sick myself/wasn't able to go out at all when it ran out- that was before everything really shut down and we were just "social distancing." I'm really glad I did that and don't have to go back right now. Of course, depending on how long this goes on I may have to go back again, but I sure hope things are better by then. He's currently got about 50 daily pills left- I sure hope things are better in 50 days!

I had to pick up prescription cat food the other day. They brought a mobile card reader to my car to process the payment.

Our vets are only taking emergencies right now. The cat is up for her physical but won't go in until this is all over. Dog needs to have her annual eye check up which we were already late for, but won't be seen until it's over with. I hope they will extend her eye drop prescription if we run out again. We had to go through our other vet to get the drops we needed at the beginning of this mess. Totally my fault for not scheduling sooner, but it was a hassle. I'm hoping that now since it's out of our control they'll help us out.

Dog gets allergy shots every 4-6 weeks. She's due pretty soon. I'm hoping that they can take her for that if she starts to get too itchy.

They had us wait in the parking lot while they processed our card for payment. Then they brought out a receipt and treat for the doggy. Easy get appointment, but I wish I had one tech was more conscious not to get so close to pet parents. She is so social. We love her and I'm not worried. I just cringe because she needs to protect herself reaching into cars.

I wasn't going to go for anything routine, but then I noticed a tooth problem a few weeks ago.

I had to call from my car and someone came out in gloves and a mask and took him in. He's so little that I just passed him through the window.

Then, the vet called to talk to me. The front desk person called to collect payment. Then, the vet took him back out in a mask and gloves.

I was relieved because this was kind of early in the distancing so I wasn't sure what they'd do.

My DDIL is a vet and that is what they have been doing in her practice. One other thing that they are doing is they split the staff into two teams. The teams never work together, that way if someone gets sick it doesnít close down the whole office.

My DD tried to schedule our cat for a nail clipping appointment last week, but they were only taking emergencies. So now that cat is dealing with his claws on my furniture.

My vet is doing that as well. Thankfully, I have not had to use it. I think they take your credit card info over the phone. The local low-cost spay/neuter/vaccine clinic is also doing something very similar (nobody comes in, they come to you to get the pet).

My vet is only handling emergencies now, but is doing curbside. You call when you are in the parking lot and they send a vet tech to take the history and get your pet. You remain in your car. Then, they return the pet to you and you pay. My dog is due for a heartworm test and well pet checkup. She has plenty of medication right now, and I will be waiting till I can safely schedule her in.

Right, I was going to say I hope everyone not still in the crowded waiting room with their pets, but sitting in their cars in the parking lot until it's their time for their pet to be seen.

I have no idea if the vets in my area are still open...no longer have a pet these days.

That is exactly what I did when I brought Boo in today. He was a definite emergency. They have my credit card number on file .

My vet asks you to call when you arrive and they will come out to your car and get the pet. You have to pay online or by phone. Then the vet will call you on your cell. They are only seeing emergency patients.



I also read that vets are turning their ventilators over to hospitals to use for human patients.

Our vet has been doing that. Our cats have had their wellness checks so we wonít be taking them unless there is an emergency.
