I would also like the pictures or any other materials to use because I am also doing this theme.
I got the series of books for under $80.00 from Amazon if anyone is interested.

Although I haven't found a copy yet, there is supposed to be a back-to-school unit in the Mailbox Magazine, Primary Edition, June/July 2000. Anyone keep their back issues?

One idea for a bulletin board I had ( as I was planning to do this theme, also) was to put up a world map. You can velcro the Magic Tree House books you are featuring and run some colorful yarn to the places where they take place. Below the bulletin board map you could place regalia of some of the things representative of that place. For example, if you were doing Lions Past Lunchtime - the yarn would run up to Africa. On the table below you could place plastic lions, zebras ect.. ( animals from the story). Maybe even have a jar of peanut butter, honey and a loaf of bread, as these are what Jack and Annie offer the Masai warrior. Just a thought!!PS not sure if it is Carson Dellarosa but one of those companies does have a bulletin board set featuring a tree house. I found a picture of a tree house on the internet, made a transparency of it and then traced it. I was going to put it up as a bulletin board, with the words Traveling With Jack and Annie and then place each child's picture in the tree house. PSS I also have a great picture of a tree house which I have the students glue on their Magic Tree House folders. If interested let me know, I can send it to you as an attachment. Just need your email address.

Hi.. cute idea
maybe for your job chart you can make another tree and use the trunk to list jobs and leaves with the kids' names on them...

our behavior idea might have something to do with climbing the rungs of the rope ladder

good luck

I think you should put a green grass umbrella in your reading corner.

monicaw 06-29-2009 05:26 PM

thanks for all the good ideas
I found the passport site! Love it!

lesliem 06-29-2009 09:05 AM

I did this theme last year in my class. I built a tree house the kids could read in and put real tree branches hanging around with the kids' names on paper leaves. We each did a passport that I found online where they could take a simple quiz on each Magic Tree House book and print out a sticker for their passports. (Sorry I don't have the link handy. I think it's Random House). We also did a beginning of the year writing project where they wrote where they would go in a magic tree house. I made a picture of the tree house and glued their pictures inside to put with the writing. My students had fun with this theme!

Nasco (enasco online) has some cute tents. One looks like a tree house.

Another pt member posted this and I didn't remember who it was, so I googled 'eagle scout magic treehouse project.' It has pictures of the tree house and a bb .

I came across this picture of a cute Magic Tree House door/entryway the other day. I don't know if you have seen it or not, but it sounds a lot like what you are describing.
Good luck - it seems like a cute theme!

I think I am going to do a Magic Tree House theme this year. I am going to paint some of that canvas to look like the treehouse floor complete with the "M" and use it as a rug in my reading area. I will put up a big tree on the wall and hang a rope ladder. After that...I am stuck. Do you guys have any ideas for my job chart, bulletin boards, etc.? You are all so good with ideas. Thanks in advance!!!
