Ours is usually just used for people complaining... there are about 2,000 people in it.

This week’s gripes include the trash day being changed, and the admins of the group requiring all members to use their real name.

Oh, and that people are still shooting off fireworks.

We have "word of mouth ______ (location)" FB pages in my area. The page for my actual neighborhood isn't very active. I joined another that's basically the next neighborhood over (I'm house hunting and thinking about buying in that area) and theirs is very active. It's not usually complaints.

We have Nextdoor but I hardly look at it. My neighborhood's page is super boring- 95% just people trying to sell things or asking for recommendations for plumbers, electricians, etc. I rent so don't need that information at the moment. Supposedly the Nextdoor for my school's neighborhood is very interesting and has a lot of funny drama. I'd like to see that one, but you can't look at other neighborhoods on Nextdoor.

Our city has a public facebook page, but not our subdivision.

I get invitations to join "Nextdoor", but never join.

It’s very popular on our large community page for people to take pictures of other people while driving to put them on blast for minor traffic annoyances.

Ours is called nextdoor.com. I usually find it useful. Lots of lost and found animal posts, some complaints, people looking for recommendations (which I find the most helpful), and some political sparring (which I think a moderator should delete). On the whole I find it helpful.

Our city has one and its literally like a "get off my lawn" complaint page. People complain about EVERYTHING.

My neighborhood has a Facebook page which is sometimes helpful....recommendations for contractors, buy and sell, etc.....but sometimes it is just humorous. People report lots of “suspicious activity” here in our rural neighborhood with extremely low crime: “Did anyone else notice the man in a white car driving slowly down the road yesterday?” “Oh yes, I saw him too. Probably looking to snatch some kids.”

Or more likely....probably trying to find a friend’s house and having trouble seeing the house numbers because we don’t have a uniform way of displaying them.

The paranoia just cracks me up sometimes.

Our town has a Facebook page that is great. Lost dogs, accidents, announcements, current events, vents (mostly about tourists), and some local politics. Our neighborhood has an email link of addresses. We have about 30 houses in our subdivision and in 21 years only 3 people have moved. Nicest neighbors ever. Our immediate neighbors are wonderful. We would love to move to a smaller home but it is tough when our hood is so awesome.

My neighborhood has a FB page that is rarely used. We are more active on NextDoor.

We have a FB for our subdivision. We’re a rural mountain neighborhood, and share about seeing wildlife, trouble on the road, if the plow has come yet, and internet/phone/power outages. People also offer help to each other.

It’s mostly friendly and only occasionally sees a complaint, usually about someone driving too fast.

I don't live in a subdivision, the area I live in is a bunch of individual houses. There are no HOA's or anything like that. but there is a town community group. I love it.

As someone who isn't from this area, it is a great way to get restaurant recommendations, share traffic updates, community events, important news stories, etc.

NoElephants 07-06-2019 06:31 PM

The one for just my neighborhood is pretty decent and helpful for the most part. Then we have a community one that is made up of all the neighborhoods in the area and it’s starting to become a complaint page.

Yes, my neighborhood has a FB page. It’s used for lots of things— recommendations for yard/home repairs, crime reporting, power outage checks, lost and found pets, etc.

I find it useful — and it’s nice to know who’s in your neighborhood!

Boymom21 07-06-2019 06:11 PM

Does your subdivision have one?

How is it benefiting your neighborhood?

Or do you think it’s dumb? We already have an email “group” but people check fb way more.
