First I love your retirement plans. East Coast is a large swath of land with huge varieties obviously. Williansburg VA is near the coast, lots of golf and an easy rental income.
Further north, Nantucket Island but I think it’s beyond expensive but Massachusetts coastal areas are lovely and would fit whet you’re looking for.
Maine would also fit your bill. My brother has a home in Bar Harbor which is easily rented when they’re not using it. Bath/Phippsburg/Sebasco also are nice.

Daytona Beach Shores
New Smyrna Beach
Ormond Beach
Ponce Inlet
Cocoa Beach
St. Augustine Beach

All of the above are on the NE or central coast of FL

I also love the Chesapeake Bay area!

To add to your list--also consider Maryland's Eastern Shore--around Ocean City, Rehobeth, or even around Lewes, Delaware.

OP here- Our initial thoughts were NC or SC. But I wanted to put it out there to see other fabulous places you all recommend.

Hilton Head, SC has lots of golf courses and is on the ocean.

On the East Coast we have rented homes for vacation in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Tybee Island, Georgia, and Carolina Beach, North Carolina! We loved them all!

I’m not sure what specific states you’re looking at but:
Tybee Island, GA
Montauk, NY
Amelia Island, FL
Savannah, GA
Charleston, SC (Daniel Island, Isle of Palms, or Mt. Pleasant are beautiful cities in the Charleston area)
Martha’s Vineyard, MA

I would love to hear some input from the East Coast people!

DH and I are playing with the idea of (in the next 5-7 years) buying a house on the East Coast. Our dream is to split our retirement time between California where we currently live and Spain. Recently we started thinking of adding in a third location on the east coast. Here’s what we envision on the east coast. We want a home near the beach/coast and near/on a golf course. We would most likely rent it out as a vacation rental when we’re not using it.

Anyone have any great locations that we can start researching?

Thank you!
