14 1/2 days. This is the kind of year that I'm counting down between each break, because that's the only way I can handle the craziness that is this year.

My 23rd year teaching/24th working in a classroom, and it's my CUH-RAZIEST year EVER!!!

12/22 is a half-day and we go back 1/2. I am okay with it because I don't want to start earlier or extend the school year. If it were up to me, I would even take out our February break. Do a week in March instead of 1 week in Feb an another week in April so we could get out 1 week earlier.

luvtulearn 12-04-2017 10:49 PM

Students last day is 12/21 full day and we have a PD all day Friday 12/22 . . .But I sure hope it will NOT be another extended PD day for us like on Wed. 12/20 where we stay until 5:00pm. 😳 That would be horrible. We return on 1/8/18 along with our students.

2sankofa 12-04-2017 06:47 PM

We get out Dec. 22 and go back Jan 8. TIME IS GONG AT A SNAIL'S PACE.

TexTeacher 12-04-2017 03:43 PM

We have a half day on the 22nd and then are out two full weeks until January 8th.

Its been a long time since weve gone that close to Christmas. I will enjoy the time in January though. I just need to stay organized and on top of Christmas!

EllaKate 12-03-2017 09:13 PM

Last day: 12/22 (full day)
Return: 01/08 (kids also)

Cannot wait! Three weeks!

VivianCP 12-03-2017 04:21 PM

I am shocked that so many of you have such a short break. We have a 1/2 day on the 22nd & go back on Jan 8, with kids.

For those that only have about a week off, do you also get some type of winter break? We get usually 2 wks at Christmas & 6 days at Easter. I am in a PK-8 Catholic school.

NJ Teacher 12-03-2017 03:10 PM

We have a full day on December 22, and we go back January 2nd.

Hotbox88 12-03-2017 12:08 PM

We get out the 20th and go back January 3rd.

GottaLoveKids 12-03-2017 07:46 AM

We go until the 22nd, then back on Jan. 3rd.

FUNNYJOKER 12-03-2017 07:17 AM

We're also going all the way to the 22nd and then back on Jan 2nd. It never really feels like a relaxing Christmas vacation.

readandweep 12-03-2017 06:45 AM

We are out Dec. 21.

Teachers are back January 2 and students are back January 3.

seashell 12-03-2017 06:09 AM

We have field trip on 19th and go back Jan 2.

spedder1 12-03-2017 05:59 AM

We go until the 22nd. I'm a long term sub and my long term is over at 2:20 on the 8th. I am doing some mentoring the following 2 weeks, so my last day will be at 2:20 on the 20th. I'm taking a break from subbing for awhile after that. I am so glad I don't have to sub on the 22nd. I'm wondering how many children will actually be in school because of traveling. A parent is putting together a classroom party on the 22nd and has invited me back for that. I'll talk with the new teacher ahead of time and tell her I've been invited and am not just barging in.

flor12 12-03-2017 05:19 AM

We go until 3:30 (with kids) on the 22nd and then 2 full weeks off.

desert flower 12-03-2017 02:51 AM

Exactly the same as catandturtle.

dee 12-03-2017 12:53 AM

Yep. Chaos.

We go back the 2nd

Teacher_twins 12-02-2017 11:15 PM

My last formal day of instruction is December 11. Then we have exams for the rest of week.

4leaves 12-02-2017 10:33 PM

We end on December 15 and go back on January 2 (my 33rd wedding anniversary ), so we have 17 days off! I should have planned a trip to Europe! I will instead be painting some interior rooms in my house. Kids will be with cousins (all are grown up) in San Diego, and husband will probably be on a work trip. Time to adopt a Labrador, don’t you think? Happy December

catandturtle 12-02-2017 09:45 PM

It's going ok. Each day is a little better. I begged the district for a transfer and they said they would try, but I might just decide to stay because it's not too bad. If you want to know more I can tell you in pm.

jov 12-02-2017 08:28 PM

Short break this year! Full day on Dec. 22 and back to school on Jan. 2

AlwaysSummer 12-02-2017 08:26 PM

So jealous. We get a half day on December 22 and come back January 2. 14 and a half days.

Haley23 12-02-2017 06:18 PM

I have the same schedule as you, OP. Our first day off is the 22nd, teachers go back for a PD day on Jan. 8th and students return on the 9th. Dec. 21st is a work day for us. In previous years, the work day was always in January before students returned. I wish we were still doing that; I think it's going to be really hard to be as productive the day before Christmas break!

Cat, how is the middle school job going?

Munchkins 12-02-2017 05:54 PM

Half day on the 22nd and we go back. Jan. 2nd. Can't wait!

PollyCarp 12-02-2017 05:53 PM

12/16-1/1 (break). 10 more days for most of us. I took a personal day because of my choir's concert weekend so I only have 9 more days, but . . . sub plans. And also spending an entire weekend standing on a cramped riser under lights!

Zia 12-02-2017 05:47 PM

Our last day is 12/15 and we have a PD day on the 1/3 (I think) and kids come back 1/4.

javamomma 12-02-2017 04:52 PM

We go until the 19th

TheTrunch 12-02-2017 04:47 PM

the kids come back with us. Last day the 21 and first day back Jan. 8. 14 days to go. WooHoo!

cruxian 12-02-2017 04:47 PM

I go until the 21st. We have to go back the 2nd.
I'm hoping for snow!

Ima Teacher 12-02-2017 04:22 PM

I'll be working until December 19. DH is only working until December 15.

I go back January 2. He goes back January 3.

He's trying not to rub it in.

Anonymousey 12-02-2017 04:14 PM

Full day on 12/22. Full day on 1/2.

SassyTeach 12-02-2017 04:14 PM

linda2671 12-02-2017 04:09 PM

Our last day is December 15, and we go back January 3 with students. We have a flex work day for teachers either on December 18 or January 2.

Tiamat 12-02-2017 03:58 PM

Ten more days. School finishes December 15. Teachers are meant to have PD days on the 18th and 19th, but we traded those in early in the year (did enough afternoon/evening PD to cover the required time). We go back on the 29th January, with kids starting on the 30th.

eagles23 12-02-2017 03:31 PM

9 1/2 days!!! (School days!) Last day for kids is the 14th and teachers have PD 1/2 day on the 15th. Teachers go back the 2nd and kids return on the 3rd.

Cinderella00 12-02-2017 03:15 PM

Our last day is December 21, and we don't go back until January 8.

AJ 12-02-2017 03:13 PM

Our last day is December 22 and we return January 3. December 22 is a PD/work day, though.

TeacherPK6 12-02-2017 02:54 PM

Our last day is the twentieth and we go back on the second.

tgbwc 12-02-2017 02:49 PM

Our last day is Friday December 15. We go back on January 2.

Dreamer625 12-02-2017 02:46 PM

We have to go a half day on the 22nd and go back on Jan 2nd.

CMOORE 12-02-2017 02:46 PM

We have 12 days with kids and then one PD day on December 20th. Teachers go back on January 3rd for half day work day and the kids come back January 4th.

catandturtle 12-02-2017 02:43 PM

It's December!

How long until Christmas break for you? This is a weird year with Christmas falling on a Monday. We normally have about a week off before and a week off after, but this year we have to go through December 21st. We are off Friday, December 22nd. No time to get anything done before Christmas, but we don't have to go back until January 8 (kids go back January 9).
