Do you have an idea of your general content? I like to map out an overview of my lesson, then look at sites like Smart Exchange and find a format that looks interesting. By looking at how they put together the notebook and thinking about how my components will fit, I learn some new techniques and come up with an engaging lesson.

My focus is going to be lessons on the American Revolution for my 5th graders.

Well I made my professional growth goal for the year designing lessons using the Smartboard that encourage higher order thinking skills. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but now my mind is a blank. What are some of the ways you design these type of lessons?
