Thank you for your advice...I am doing training this summer...I have heard of the Daily 5 but I don't know much about it..I will research that too. Thanks....

You're getting some training for this I hope! Unless you've done writers workshop it can be daunting. Try the Daily 5, although it may be more for primary grades. In 6th grade I believe it is more about book clubs and comprehension.

I suggest getting the Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading book. It even breaks down the first 20 days of school. It was wonderful for me and I used it a lot as a reference the first year I had to teach guided reading.
