What do you tell a new assistant in your room? This person will be working with students (not clerical work). I would love your advice about what important things you tell someone coming into your room to help things run smoothly from the gate. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Make sure you let her know what your procedures are for bathroom, pencil sharpening, going to the nurse etc. Kids tend to play one adult off the other.
Make a list for her as to what to do and when.
Each day may be different. Communicate when the kids are out of the room. I found that one my assistant and I started a conversation they would
go crazy. Good luck

The first thing I would stress is that everything is considered confidential. Please don't discuss students outside the classroom - including in the teachers' lounge.

Suggest that cell phones and other electronic devices be put away while at work.

Give ideas of tasks that can be completed during "down time".
