Teacher 924's Message:

I am having a hard time trying to fit guided reading groups and word study groups in each day. Does anyone have any suggestions? Unfortunately, I only have about an hour for my reading block. I have always had about 90 minutes in past years, but due to scheduling/etc.. I just CAN NOT fit it in. I have writing daily for about 45 minutest to teach a short grammar lesson as well as actual writing. I really want and NEED to pull WS groups and I am wanting to utilize Words their Way...Please help!!

If you do words their way, once they get the hang of the various activities, you pretty much only need one or two lessons per week.

Also, consider a six day cycle: days 1, 3, and 5 you focus on guided reading and maybe only 10 minutes of word study. Days 2, 4, and 6 try 30 minutes reading and 30 minutes word work.

These days itís impossible to do both subjects justice in one hour every day.
