Received one interview via Zoom for next week. I am hoping there will be more coming through soon. Honestly I'm surprised I did receive an interview given the circumstances. I know in many districts around my area it seems that hiring is the least of their worries right now.

Jobs are posting all over the place in St. Louis. Of course they’re not calling me, but I have to assume they’re filling them with younger and cheaper people.

My school hired 4 positions (smaller school) because of retirements and my old district (which is huge) is hiring. And I’m fact that district won’t fill all the positions.

There will certainly be some positions, although I suspect it won't be as many. It's certainly worth it to apply to anything you see and go for it.

We typically have a fairly high turnover at my school- usually about 10 positions. It's a tough place to work. This year we had only 3 people leave. I think once the pandemic started people who may have wanted to pursue something different decided to stay put where they had a secure job. We did hire for those 3 positions via zoom.

I think it totally depends on your state and what your position is. I think elementary is tough because there are a lot of teachers, not enough jobs. I can tell you everything in my state and surrounding me has stopped hiring altogether for middle and high school. I’ve seen about 5 jobs go up since late March.

I think there will be budget cuts, larger class sizes, etc. And elementary teachers are usually plentiful. However, it doesn't hurt to apply. Maybe they will be looking for exactly what you offer.

I am a private school teacher looking for a public school lower elementary teaching job but I keep hearing that city's school budget might get deep cuts. So do you think there is any reason to be optimistic that I could get even an interview for next school year?
