Change the song set so there is an active part where they are cleaning up, like Sbkangas5 said, and then a slow part as they come to the carpet. Something with a relaxation sequence (if you can find/make it) would be great - "Sit down and close your eyes, breathe deeply, wiggle your fingers to relax them, place them in your lap..."

I swear by having a clean up song. Any song, it doesn't really matter, but I turn it on and that is their cue to clean up and come to the rug. They have the duration of the song to be done. I love not having to say a word. I have a whole group incentive system so the peer pressure to be done and on the rug in time is fantastic!

Anyone have advice on transitions? I can get my kids to carpet and then to centers, but finishing a whole group activity and coming back to carpet or finishing centers and coming back to carpet is not going well- they are loud and wiggly and it is taking too long to get settled...I have tried songs and one table at a time and a chime- any help would be great!
