We used to have this story in our HBJ reading series (when we had an anthology). Very Tall Mouse said hello to tall things...the sun, the clouds, the roof, etc. Very Small Mouse said hello to short things: grass, bugs, dirt, etc.

I have a poetry form I'd have kids fill in--alternating things up high and things down low that you'd see in spring.

Hello rainbow
Hello grass
Hello sun
Hello tulips
Hello spring.

Hello butterflies
Hello worms
Hello kites
Hello robins
Hello spring.

Fits great with Maggiebville and Summertimes's poem ideas!!!

I do the poem and then have the kids add their own line of what they like

goodbye shoveling

hello riding my bike

and then they illustrate it.

Love that poem!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I LOVE the Good-bye and Hello poem. Looks like it will be fun! Thanks again!

Good-bye and Hello

by Barbara Anthony

Good-bye, ice skates.

Good-bye, sled.

Good-bye, winter;

Spring's ahead.

Good-bye, snowpants.

Good-bye, snow.

Good-bye, winter. Spring, hello!

Hello, crocus.

Hello, kite.

Good-bye, winter

Spring's in sight!

Hello, jumprope.

Hello, swing.

Good-bye winter!

Hello, spring!

This is also fun to do as a choral reading. Boys read the lines that have to do with winter (or ones that start with Good bye), girls read lines that have to do with spring or start with hello.

To Pop Goes the Weasel:

You plant the seed in the dirt,
The rain falls in the showers,
The sun comes up,
and what do you know?
Pop go the flowers!

To I'm A Little Teapot:

I'm a little flower,
Purple and red,
I grew up in a flower bed.
With a little rain and tender care,
Flowers, flowers, everywhere!

I find alot of my poems/songs for any occasion on

teacherdani21 03-24-2008 01:25 PM

Anyone have any fun spring songs/poems/chants? I went online, and found some, but none of them seem to be catching my eye. My kids really enjoy chants that they can sing (preferably to a tune of a song). If any one has any cute ones..pleae share! Thanks so much!
