6th graders always write letters to thank their favorite teachers. My students typically comment most on the read alouds. they recall the books and how it inspired them to read , read authors and series they were introduced to. Makes me smile every time I read those

I taught fifth for years and did a poetry slam every year. The students would always come back and talk about them. I would go all out with spotlight, black clothes and cool hats, graffiti walls, poetry notebooks, snapping instead of clapping, coffee and treats for all the parents, poetry programs and a poetry art gallery. The kids loved it so much! I'm Seeing if I can fit it in with fourth grade this year!

I used to do a musical play about the United States. Kids designed the scenery and we used our classroom to perform for the parents. Kids that are in college right now still remember this from 4th grade!

Do you have a favorite thing you do each year with your kids that your students always remember, even years later? Something they really enjoyed?
