Use lots of tape or hot glue. I used to cover the library door inside and outside when I was librarian. I used lots of tape rolled small all around the edges and it stayed up for a long time. Teachers were amazed at how great it looked a month later. The trick is to roll the tape small-the bigger the loop size the less it holds. It takes a while to put that much tape on things but it stays up and doesn't get torn up so it is worth it.

My roommates and I hot glued fabric over our windows in our dorm room. We never had a problem with it falling.

How did you apply the fabric? I use it for all my bb's but this is a solid wood door. Will hot glue stick to fabric? I tried the table cloth last year and I think the one I bought was too cheap. It was so thin even doubled.

Usually my coworkers and I use fabric and add border and store bought letters, pics etc. They are sturdy and last the whole year. I wish I had pics, but I dont. Being that the door sees a lot of action we go with the sturdy products.

I have always had my door decorated. It makes me happy I have a die-cut of some sort with the kids' names and sometimes picture (at Christmas I put up reindeer with their faces) and a title. I only do paper for one time things/special events. I take it down quickly because it looks bad after a day or two. Last year I added border that was laminated and It stayed up pretty well. Lots of packing tape.

I don't cover mine, but I thought that maybe an inexpensive table cloth could work. You could go to a party store and get a ton of different themed ones too. Just a thought.

For those of you who cover your door for the whole year what do you cover it with that will last?
