I think it's because no one (or hardly anyone) listens or talks to them at home.

I teach a 4/5 combo and they NEVER stop talking. It drives me crazy. Moving their seats doesn't help either; if the person they want to talk to isn't sitting next to them they just talk louder to whoever they're talking to. And I just wonder..."You guys see each other 5 days a week, 6 hours a day. What else is there to talk about?"

I was talking to a 4th grade teacher who has the same problem and her theory is that they talk so much at school because it's really their only social time. I mean, what do they do when they go home? Play Fortnite? Maybe do their homework? They probably wouldn't talk so much in class if they had other opportunities to socialize with kids their age.

They never stop talking. They will still be talking in 4th grade. If no one is listening they are still talking. We did a computer assessment the other day and it was a solo assignment. Everyone had their own laptop and they were still talking. I asked them if they were talking to their computers because they were not to be talking to each other. I seriously think they were!

I teach Kindergarten so I have the same kids all day. Plus they are together for lunch, together for recess, and together for specials. By the end of the day (especially towards the end of the week) what can they possibly still have to talk about?!?!? Why can't I get them to stop talking long enough to give directions?

I'm end of year teacher tired.
