27 years
All at grade 3 and up....4 different schools in 4 different cities
Every year taught Language Arts...sometimes with other subjects and several years self contained.
1 year hometown school
1 year emergency cert. 9th grade (not my favorite so moved on)
15 years grades 3, 4, 5
10 years grade 4

Funny thing is...in all those years I have always had the last lunch period of the day and planning period either the last period or next to last period except for one year.

I just finished my 21st year of teaching, and I've taught in only two schools.

Years 1-15 - small private school (left due to difficult Head of School)
Year 16 - public elementary
Years 17-21 - same small private school as before (returned when difficult Head of School left)

dawnmei 06-13-2015 10:57 AM

And still in the same building I started at. Love it!

shellea 06-13-2015 09:22 AM

Mrs.Lilbit 06-13-2015 07:30 AM

17 years of teaching over 19 years (two years as a SAHM in between years 7 and 8). Three states, two private schools, four public school districts, and nine schools:

Year 1--Private school in TN (Taught K for 1 year; moved to LA)

Year 2--Private school in LA (Taught K for 1 year; left to teach public)

Years 3-7--Inner city public school in LA (Taught K for 5 years; moved to MS)

Years 8-9-- Rural school in MS (Taught 3rd for one year and K for the other; moved to TN)

Year 10--Suburban school in TN (Taught 1st for 1 year; was non-renewed by a bully principal)

Year 11--Inner city school in TN (Taught K for 1 year; was hired as an interim, position was eliminated after one year)

Year 12--Magnet school in TN (Taught 2nd for 1 year; position was eliminated after a drop in enrollment)

Year 13-14--Large metropolitan disctrict, very diverse student body. Very affluent neighborhood, but most of the kids were bussed in from poorer neighborhoods. Large hispanic population. (Taught 2nd for 2 years: left the regular classroom to teach gifted and talented)

Years 15 to Present--University Lab school, majority of the students are upper middle class (Teach G/T pullout 1st through 5th grade)

My youngest son goes to the lab school with me and I hope to be here until he finishes 5th grade. Once youngest is in middle school, I hope to move to a school closer to home because this school is a one hour commute from my home (and DH has no interest in moving).

I homeschooled 16 yrs.
Then taught 8 yrs at one private school.
This fall, I will start traveling to 20 school districts for my new job. Should be interesting to see how they all do things differently!

In 20 years -
2 years in a private school
1 year in MS
17 years in elementary - the same building, though different grades, K, 2, 3. I crave change after a while and changing grades has always been good for me. I get bored with curriculum

beagles2 06-12-2015 07:28 PM

In my 20 years I've taught in 4 schools. However, always the same grade level and always in the same district!

Teacherbee_4 06-12-2015 03:23 PM

I'm in 4th year and have been at 2 schools, both in the same district and 2 years at each place.

letsgomets 06-12-2015 03:16 PM

Just over 30 years teaching - 2 states; 5 schools. The bad thing is in the last 4 years there have been 3 different schools. I taught at my beloved Catholic School for 24 years before it closed. No matter what happens in the next year (or more?) this will be my last school. I'm taking it a year at a time at this point.

Elemteach22 06-12-2015 03:08 PM

35 years and 5 school districts. I have taught in one school district for 9 years and my current school district for 23 years. I taught in the other three for one year each while waiting for positions in the other districts to open.

When we start back in August. All at the same school, but I have taught at 5 different grade levels: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th. I have also taught combined classrooms (2/3, 3/4, &5/6).

1956BD 06-12-2015 02:26 PM

I did my student teaching at Seguin High School.

Then I taught at Kitty Hawk Middle School just outside of San Antonio for one year.

Then I taught at a middle school for two years in Houston called Klein Intermediate. When they built a new middle school I transferred there and taught another three years.

Then I taught a Del Valley High School for a year.

Then I switched to elementary education and have taught at the same school for 19 years in Austin.

So, I have taught at six public schools. I have also taught at two different private preschools.

I've taught for almost 16 years, and I have been in the same school/grade/classroom.

TexTeacher 06-12-2015 01:37 PM

I thought it would be fun to see how many schools some of you have been in over your career.

Next year will be my 17th year and I have been in 2 schools. One for 5 years and another for the past 12.
