Have the class bring treats, make cards or a big sign for the custodians, secretaries and cafeteria staff as a thank you for what they do for the students.

Make Valentine's Day cards for a near by old folks home.

Make a giant card for the nearest fire department fire fighters. Have all students sign.

When a child does something kind, he/she writes what he/she did and for whom on a heart-shaped cut-out (or the person who received the display of kindness writes about it and who did it). Display the hearts by grade level or in an area where everyone entering the building will see them.

Thank you for all the great ideas!

Have the children do something kind at home. Brainstorm for ideas--read tp a little brother, carry in the groceries, help fold laundry, let someone else have the last cookie, visit a lonely neighbor.

And then talk with the class about what they did and how it went.

Could they do a simple food drive? Just ask every student to bring in one can of food.

Since you're getting ready to move into a new building, are there ways that students can help with the process? Help pack a box?

Make cards to send to a senior center, nursing home, or hospital. Takes just the cost of paper.

Read Because Amelia Smiled. Then, have a short discussion about “paying it forward”.

Tell them, when they go to recess, consciously don’t something kind. And watch the ripple.

After recess, try this writing assignment:

“Because I helped Jose find the ball, he played with me. Because I played with Jose, ....”

Or
“because Mrs. Jones, the yard duty lady said hello to me, I said hello to Samantha. Then Samantha said hello to George and asked him to play with us. Because George played with us, he shared his snack.”

For younger grades it takes some examples, but you’d be surprised what they really do notice.

Everyone could send a note to someone who has been kind to them in the last week.

Our school focuses on a different positive character trait each month.

February is Kindness--and we're wanting to do some different things.

We will have slide shows and short videos in classrooms for each week.

A donation has allowed us to purchase BEngal KIND shirts for each kid/staff member. (We're the bengal tigers.) The first week we'll have everyone put on their shirts and take a picture forming the words Be Kind. (photo to go to benefactor) The last Friday will be "wear the shirt to school" day.

We've decided to not do Kindness Rocks this year (too much time given up for photo and we're about to move into new building.)

All month long, students and staff will be encouraged to fill out a link (pre-written with kindness suggestions) for our Acts of Kindness Chain which will spread across the campus.

Can you think of other fun low-cost shortish in time needed activities? (Our plan is to do one activity a week.) Thanks!
