Wow. banning a sub based on appearance? I would understand if it was based on the way a sub was dressing but this Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. I wonder if the school bans subs that are too ugly or too old, or too fat due to distractions.

I had a a few middle school girls telling all their friends I was hot and that they liked me and wanted to marry me. They talked about it in one of their classes and the teacher came to me when she saw me and told me to be careful, that I could get arrested and put in jail. I was highly offended by the teacher assuming I would do anything to abuse a child. I was somewhat worried about it so I went and set up a meeting with the VP. It was a meeting of less than 3 minutes. She told me this happens all the time and not to worry about it. I told the Vp what the teacher had said and the v.p. informed me that she was one of the more odd teachers on campus, that she had recently come here from India, and that she may not understand how this happens in The States.

If they had banned me from that school, I would have been very upset.

They wear clothes more suited for an interview that for teaching. For example in the highly regarded, academically high achieving district a male sub might wear a suit with a shirt and tie. At a less well regarded district this same sub would wear dockers and a golf shirt.

There's a male sub in my district that was banned from a certain middle school and rumor has it that it was due to his "hotness". Apparently he was a distraction to too many females and was interrupting the learning environment. Supposedly he's a very good looking Greek God kind of a guy. I guess I'd have to see him to confirm this. This is just what I've been told. lol

I'm pretty, I guess, but to be honest I feel like I have to work harder to prove I didn't get the job because I'm pretty, that I am valuable as an employee.

"As a day to day sub I find it interesting (amusing) the number of subs both male and female who dress up for the "better" districts."

I'm curious about what you mean by "dressing up"?

In my district there is another sub who is also a fireman. On his off days putting out fires, he subs. He is a nice guy, well-built, and decent-looking, but nothing to make you stop in your tracks or anything, you know? It's because he's a fireman all the teachers, aides, other subs, etc. act all excited and weird when he's around. You can tell he's embarrassed by all the attention. He is often booked for sub jobs months in advance.

There is also a computer tech who works for the district and goes from school to school fixing computers and such. I have seen him at various schools, and at every school it's the same thing. OMG the way the teachers and aides act is shameful. They see him passing by their room and they yell out to him and wave and wave and then rush to the phone to call other teachers to let them know he is in the building!! He is very good-looking, big dark smoldering eyes, chisled chin, curly hair, blah blah blah, but so what, why do you have to act the fool about it. I was in a long term job and there was an issue with the computers in my room, when he came by to fix them I had other teachers parading in and out of the room the whole time he was there, pretending to come in on some pretext or another. These were teachers who had NEVER been in my room before and barely said hello to me. But once they knew computer guy was in my room, here they all came in, all smiles, Hello Mrs. Mercury how are you? I just need blah blah blah or I just wanted to ask you blah blah blah. And many of these women are married!! Which makes it even more disgusting, I wonder how they would feel if their husbands acted this way around an attractive young female co-worker, humph.

He is a nice guy though and seemed to take it all in stride. I teased him a little about all the attention when we got a small break in the computer-guy-fan-club parade, and he cracked up laughing. He jokingly asked me why I was different; did I not think he was handsome or something? and I told him I'm happily married to a man as cute as he is. Which is true!

When I taught first grade their was a man from South America who was a long term sub in third grade. I guess he was physically attractive as there was a stream of young(er) female teachers in and out of his room all day. They would give up their prep time to "help him out."

As a day to day sub I find it interesting (amusing) the number of subs both male and female who dress up for the "better" districts.

Beautiful people have it easy in general and it's well known that they use their looks to get ahead. I guess subbing is no exception.

I've seen it "all". That's all I will say.

Lets face it, practically everyone in the office is always a women. I subbed for a school in which there was a model type sub guy work and each time he came he everyone by saying "hi beautiful, your looking great." Who wouldn't want a compliment from a cute guy especially if your a miserable secretary. Another school had a 24 yr old guy come in through with his skateboard, not to mention he just came back from spring break and was wearing shorts. I wouldn't consider myself pretty or ugly but I've tried to look professional and have never gotten things easy. I guess when you work in a female dominated profession, its going to get nasty.

Is anyone here a good looking man or woman and used your looks to get ahead or get cut some slack easily while subbing?
