Reading STAR test. It's all good. Just wondering what admin looks at and how much growth they expect.

Our district looks at the SGP (Student Growth Percentile)- this compares their growth with children who made the same score as them. Our goal where I am is to have that at 40 or above. I personally think any growth is good and that these tests are just a snapshot of what the child can do. If your admin asks about any that didn't make a ton of growth, you can always talk to them about what you see in the classroom.

Well, that depends on your admin. Ideally they would want to see +1.0 growth from beginning of year to end of year, if not more.

Of course, it depends. They may just look at the score itself and not growth - so if the students hit benchmark, everything is fine, even if there wasnít a yearís worth of growth shown.

Sorry! I didnít read original post correctly. I was referring to the state assessment, not Reading Renaissance.

Are you talking about star Enterprise or Texas STAAR test? I think you and the other poster are talking about two different tests

Which area is this? It just shows +4 growth or +7 next to each of my students. I gather this is good. Now what about a kid who shows just -0.4. He's a smart kid, but his test scores are horrible.

Any growth from last year is seen as a positive. Even if student didn't score in the "approaches" category, they can still show improvement from previous year.

Hello PT,
So if the students make any types of gains in this test it is a good sign? Meaning they it gives me a growth rate of 4.5 gains it is good? Or should it be higher?

Thanks
