We do our Smart Goals based on our MAP scores. So, something like:

By May of 2012, second graders' average overall MAP score in Reading will increase from 184 to 195.

Ours this year went something like the PPs except we said by the end of the school year 90% of students will have made one year's growth in reading as measured by the DRA.

One year we had that all students would be reading on grade level as measured by the DRA. It wasn't a realistic goal for us or the children. So we changed it to show growth, not attainment of grade level text. We start with anywhere from 60-70% of our class reading below grade level at the beginning of the year so this little change in words really helped us meet our goal.

My goal said something like, "By the June 1, 2012 assessment window, 100% of the students in my classroom will be reading at a Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading level M, as scored on the running record assessment." Since it has to be measurable, I had to use running records, because that is our only common assessment for reading.

Last year our PLC team wrote a reading comprehension smart goal. It went something like this:

By the end of the 2011-2012 school year, 85% of the second graders will be reading at or above the benchmark level M when assessed using the LbD Benchmark Assessments.

We also wrote a fluency one for a shorter time frame:

After being given the winter fluency assessments in January 2012, 80% of the second graders will be reading at the Proficient or Advanced levels as measured by the AIMSweb assessment.

We are being asked to write a SMART goal for next year and focusing on reading comprehension. Does anyone have any examples they would be willing to share? Thanks!
