I currently have a student who will be entering the second grade with this problem. I got him because of his behavior. This disorder lead to him being a disruption in the classroom as a way to mask his lack of understanding. The approach that I have taken thus far is one of vocabulary enrichment. I front all lessons with vocab associated with the lesson. I use a lot of ESL material and it has improved his self-esteem a great deal. Thus, his academic performance has improved.

I will be working with an upcoming 8th grade girl that has been diagnosed with Mixed receptive-expressive language disorder. My focus with her is to inprove her basic math knowledge, as well as her reading and langage arts. Does anyone have any experience working with a student with this issue? Any recommendations on books or websites that may lead me toward more information and teaching techniques?
