I'm just about to make another trip to check on my parents. (I usually go every 2nd or 3rd week, but since March this will only be my third trip since I can't see them and only go when I absolutely have to take care of business.) On every trip since Covid, I drive 4 hours, stop to get gas and use the bathroom, do a massive wipe down of everything, then drive the rest of the way. It's about 7.5 hours if I drive straight through. No unnecessary stops, side trips, restaurants, etc.

DH is coming with me this time so we've been wracking our brains a what we could do to make it feel like a vacation. Usually when we go together we try to break it up and have at least a few hours or even an overnight vacation stop. Hikes we've looked up that are close to the freeway have reviews a being too busy for social distancing, things that are very far involve a hotel stay and more logistics that we're not sure we want to navigate right now. We gave up and will just drive straight through on the way down and do one family social distance stop on the way back.

Just trying to make the decisions of how to safely get a small break felt like more stress than it was worth!

I just canceled my third trip too so I completely understand your frustration. This sucks. One day we will get to travel again. Until then I'm learning to be a homebody. Hope it gets better for us.

I sure hope that we do eventually get back to normal!

I feel fortunate that my normal summer vacation has not been interrupted. Out in the mountains and fresh air, staying away from people, is what I do best!

My DD and I did a road trip to the Oregon coast and Portland to check on her apartment. Sheís back home while her school is online. It was weird because there is not a lot open to do. City parks- most state parks were closed- no waterfalls. Uber eats for dinner

Sounds like some fun times put off but not impossible given a bit more time. So sorry Jackie

We had to cancel several, also. We did, however, do a week trip to a low COVID area that was different from a normal trip, but still nice to get away. We rented a condo in a small complex. We didnít see anyone there. Wait, we did see someone in the garage one day. We went to trails where we did run in to people, but not like going to a store. I felt safe enough. We ate out a couple times on patios and the rest of the time I cooked at the condo. It was nice. I highly suggest that if that is a possibility, go ahead and do it.

I also drove across the country and visited with my parents. We stayed home so it wasnít a great adventure, but I canít let that much time go between visits. I donít know how much time any of us have left. I felt safe going across country. I carried my food, and was just in and out for bathrooms. I did stay in hotels, but it isnít hard not to see anyone but f you donít leave your room.

While we need to take precautions, I think in most areas if you are smart about things you can still leave your house by being smart about things. Cruises and flights are not on my agenda. I am not going to Disney.

I agree!

We cancelled our beach week with our grown kids.

Then we were going to go to my mom's for a week and the governor of NJ screwed that up for us.

Then we had our annual trip to the BA mountains at a resort. Most things weren't pen so why go.

We are driving to DD's house next week...13 hours straight through with 2 dogs. ..someone help me! We will just be hanging at her place and maybe doing a couple day trips. We will be checking off items on DD's home improvement check list!

I am sorry you missed all those vacations, they sound like so much fun. I feel the same way. We were going to Nashville on spring break and meeting ds and his family in Myrtle Beach this August. Iím sad about it. I donít know when I will feel comfortable traveling.

It is disappointing. We usually go to nine jazz festivals around the Midwest during the summer and take a two week vacation at some point in the summer as well. All of our festivals have been cancelled. The things we like to do involve baseball and jazz music mostly so we are looking into a different kind of trip that we can take somewhere where we can swim in a lake and hike for even just a few days.

It is very disappointing and feels so limiting. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

I can't afford to have real vacations to have had to cancel, although we had planned to maybe meet up with some family members at a campground this summer. But I could definitely use some time away from work responsibilities. Being able to go somewhere without restrictions would be a nice bonus.

Anyone else dying to go on a real vacation? I had to cancel my third vacation since COVID came to town. First was my California Coastal cruise during spring break. I was supposed to hang with Amiga on that one when we docked by her. I was going to get to see her amazing condo and eat some authentic Mexican food for lunch

Dh and I were going to go to Aruba in August with two other couples-canceled.

My ds and I were planning on going on a quick three night Disney Cruise in November (Mickeyís Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise)...we just canceled yesterday because of guidelines Disney will be requiring on their boats. For the amount of money those cruises cost Iím not sailing with any restrictions.

Iím just sad. I want the world to go back to normal.
