Similar (to Boy Who Loved Words) in that it is a celebration of words and putting them together into wonderful, imaginative sentences, but I think a slightly easier read. I always read it to my third graders. The other is better for fourth and up, IMHO. More challenging vocabulary.

Also, Amos and Boris is a great one to start the year -- about two very different critters who become best friends. William Steig's language is always lush!

I think it's also helpful to check with the daily cafe interactive site at the sisters' website. They also have lesson's for individual cafe strategies tied to picture books.

I use a lot of Patricia Pollaco and Chris VanAllsburg. I also use a lot of nonfiction and poetry as well. I spend a lot of time looking through books at the library as there is so much out there it is hard to keep up.

is the only one that comes to mind right now. It is by Roni Schotter. You can use this one for one of the Expanding Vocabulary strategies.

I am implementing daily five and cafe this upcoming school year. I am a third grade teacher. Des anyone have a list of picture books to implement the cafe strategies for older students. Most of the book lists I have come across are just too "babyish". My third graders would not like me reading hop in pop to them! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
