Oh my gosh! Then I am disrespectful and insensitive multiple times an hour! I made made my class put their heads down and I told them they were being rude today. Of course my P walked in at that moment and looked at me like I was a monster. I would love to see her spend all day with 23 kids. She canít even come spend 10 minutes in the cafeteria with them! I needed them to be quiet for a minute so I could regroup, count to 10, and focus again. Hang in there. You were not wrong. That is classroom management!

TexTeacher 12-10-2019 07:39 PM

Has he even read The First Days of School by Harry Wong! Thatís half of what the book is about. Iíve been teaching 20 years and that was my teaching bible the first few.

hikinghiker 12-10-2019 04:19 PM

that is so ridiculous. 80% of my few few weeks in school is telling my kids to do things over again in the correct way. How is that disrespectful?! Also, your P would not be happy in my room because I swear I tell my kids all day long that I've already given directions and they need to figure it out or ask a friend, since I'm not repeating myself more than twice.

ZipLine 12-10-2019 04:19 AM

Out of curiosity, how long did your admin spend teaching in the classroom before going into admin? Any idea how he did as a teacher? Sadly some administrators canít cut it as a teacher in the classroom and move into administration thinking they know it all.

He does sound like an a$$hat.

apple annie 12-09-2019 07:09 PM

So obviously there is nothing you can do to please this guy. If you hadn't addressed the behavior issues, he would have dinged you for that.

But I must have missed something. Did you find a new job???? Are congrats in order?

pdxteacher 12-09-2019 06:54 PM

What. A. Turd.

Today I literally told a student, "I have explained this three times. I said your name each time I gave the directions, and each time you chose to ignore me. Now I'm annoyed and frustrated and I'm not going to say it again. Figure it out." And, the real kicker? I had five students in the room at the time. I'm sure your dumb@ss admin would love me.

Zia 12-09-2019 04:43 PM

Here, we have an opportunity to rebut. I would say the student was disrespectful by running in the room and the other student was insensitive to the demands on my time by not listening to directions the first time and showed disrespect by not paying attention. I'm snippy like that.

Sorry this happened, but this place and this person will be in your rear view mirror sooner than later. Put them both there.

Teacherbee_4 12-09-2019 04:36 PM

I'm sorry! That's ridiculous. I shutter to think what he would say to me because I wouldn't even be nice or calm when telling the boy to go back in and try it again. I definitely wouldn't be nice or calm when telling the student I already gave the directions, either. He'd probably say I am bitch!

Can't wait until you are out of there!

teachnkids 12-09-2019 04:09 PM

Your admin would not have liked me?

Now if you said...little sh!t go back out and come back in...then I could see his comment

checkerjane 12-09-2019 03:22 PM

Oh, wow, what an a-hole. No advice, but it would really bother me too. Iím sorry youíre stuck in that situation.

ChrisL77 12-09-2019 03:11 PM

Iím in good company greyhound girl. Iím disrespectful and insensitive too for having expectations for my students.
Hold your head up high. You are not the one with the problem.

cruxian 12-09-2019 03:04 PM

Shoot, I know it's easier said than done but try not to let him take up space rent-free in your mind.
As PP have said, he'd have found fault with whatever you did and likely if anybody else had done the same things he wouldn't have said anything.
What would he have said if you hadn't reminded the kid that you had already gone over directions or allowed the other student to enter the room however he wanted?
I'm so glad you're out of there.

NJ Teacher 12-09-2019 02:37 PM

I am retired now, but it seems that these rubric-based evaluation systems seem to empower and bring out the worst in many administrators. Disrespectful and insensitive to whom? It seems to me that he is being disrespectful and insensitive to you by using such strong language that could be interpreted (or misinterpreted) widely.

I am sorry that you are working for such a person. I think, if I remember correctly, you got a transfer to a different school where you also had someone who didn't appreciate you and your hard work.

I retired two years ago, and I have to say that while the main factor was financially-based, my administrator was not someone who valued me or even knew me as a person. I felt marginalized by her, and every observation was a picky one where she never failed to mention storage of materials no matter what I did or how similar my room looked to others.

I hope it works out for you. At least the observation is over.

mooba1 12-09-2019 02:29 PM

Wow. If holding kids accountable is disrespectful and insensitive, then I wouldnít have lasted more than a day in that school, especially as a sub. Just keep in mind that heís exactly where he needs to be, while you, on the other hand, are moving on to better things.

His snowflake admin style will come back to bite him, big time. Too bad you wonít have the satisfaction of seeing it happen. Living well is the best revenge, though.

JanetL 12-09-2019 02:26 PM

Is that retaliation for leaving soon?

marguerite2 12-09-2019 02:07 PM

mommy9298 12-09-2019 01:44 PM

Itís not worth your time or energy. When are you announcing you are resigning?

Aillya 12-09-2019 01:39 PM

>Making a kid go out and come in quietly was disrespectful and reminding a kid that I went over the directions was disrespectful.

Have we entered bizarro world? I swear these admin have never taught in a classroom.

Of course, the ironic part is when a teacher is having disciplinary problems in class, then the administrators will lecture about how you control the tone of the class. But when you take steps to control the tone of the class, it's "disrespectful" because every child is made of glass now.

kahluablast 12-09-2019 12:58 PM

Probably wouldnít have liked me, either.

Let it go,

PrivateEyes 12-09-2019 12:58 PM

When a kid comes running into the classroom, what does he suggest that you should do?

PindleLou888 12-09-2019 12:53 PM

What a dumba$$! What is wrong with him?

Tiamat 12-09-2019 12:47 PM

But ... those are normal classroom procedures. Arenít they?

GreyhoundGirl 12-09-2019 12:12 PM

I looked at what he highlighted. Making a kid go out and come in quietly was disrespectful and reminding a kid that I went over the directions was disrespectful. I'm so done.

marguerite2 12-09-2019 11:51 AM

I can think of a few rude disrespectful things you could say to him, but none you would have said in class.

GreyhoundGirl 12-09-2019 11:38 AM

I had my formal last week and I knew it was going to be a train wreck. I actually thought it went fine, but of course my admin didn't. In his notes he said that I was "disrespectful" and "insensitive".

I know I need to let it go, but really? I asked for specific examples and he said he put it in the rubric so I guess I need to go see what he considers "disrespectful" and "insensitive".

He's such an a$$hat.
