I just got hired (finally) as an Elementary Art Teacher in the city!

Any advice for my first year will be welcome! Any favorite start of the year projects?

I can't wait for the fall!

Hello,
I am a brand new OCPS art teacher too. I have taught 3rd for a couple years and have art background. I can't seem to locate the order of instruction for Art classes for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Perhaps it doesn't matter or perhaps they are being revised. I don't know.

I have found many great lessons on blogs. About 50 so far and I'm still looking. I don't have a classroom; just an art cart to go around to rooms. It is hard to complete lessons in 40 minutes. I read this morning to focus on teaching less and letting them learn more. I guess that can be both me lecturing less as well as reducing topics to allow for their own personal exploration. I too am very excited and hope that you may want to share ideas and sites, etc.

Mark
