Wow, you already got a great list!

I would add that Scholastic has a very cute, well written picture book series of Biographies. I think they are called I Am... I bought a pack that has Rosa Parks, Lincoln, Martin luter King Jr, Jackie Robinson, Jane Goodall, and Helen Keller.

They have super cute illustrations, as well as a few real photos as the end. They are short enough to read at one time, but very thorough too. My kids love those!
