This is a wonderful book I read every year to start off a discussion around problem solving. A little Mexican girl cries to her Grandmother when a series of accidents happen. Her Grandmother teaches her to deal with her problems in four different ways; be a tree-look at the problem from all sides, be a rock wait and see what happens, be a mountain lion and face your fears or be an eagle and see from high above that the problems are really small. Great conversations have developed after sharing this book, wonderfully descriptive language, lots of potential literacy activities. (...and I use the references all year as little problems happen!)

I'm teaching a grade 3/4 this year and I'm looking for chapter book suggestions to use during read alouds. What are your favourite books? What book would you start the year with?
