We purchased Moon Over Manifest last year. My kids loved the book and fit right in with 5th grade Social Studies from immigration to World War I, the Great Depression, the plight of coal miners. When we read they didn't want to stop.

Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry is GREAT. The kids really get interested in the Holcaust and we have some really good discussions.

I have coworkers who use George Washington's Socks, which goes along with their American Revolution unit.

I'm sure there are many others, but those are the two I thought of immediately.

Lucky you!!

I would by Book Club sets (4-5) of novels about the themes I teach for Social Studies and Science...Ecosystems, Revolutionary War, Space...

I would also do it at Scholastic to get the deals and points and get more for your money...

I might also use it for picture books that relate to my teaching, math ones are great.

I teach biographies, so would get mentor texts for that as well...other mentor texts for writing workshop.

Also, I might check my library for holes and buy for that. For example, I have LOTS of fantasy, but not much sports themes.

Have fun...

I am looking for suggestions ...

I have approx. $300 to spend on books for my 5th grade classroom library. What books would you buy?

Thank you!
