This is my first year with UOS as well and I'm planning to start the realistic fiction unit in December. I LOVE the idea of having them physically create a character.

Luvtoteach13~ Would you mind sharing the parent letter you sent explaining the project??

thanks!!!

Wow! That is a great idea! I wish I had heard of it before starting realistic fiction.

I 'm starting the Realistic Fiction unit this week. My students were given a project to do about a month ago to prepare for this unit. They had to physically create a character using oaktag, fabric/felt, any other art supplies that they wanted to use. After they created their character they had to do a report on it including:
the characters name
characters age
characters likes and dislikes
characters hobbies
chracters family and friends
and other information.

We also have a class character that we created together as a class. I think the students are going to enjoy this unit.

This is my first year using TC Reading and Writing. Thankfully, I have a wonderful literacy coach who helps me plan out each unit.

In the small companion book that Lucy Caulkins just published, the one specifically geared to second grade, it says that after the Small Moments Unit 2 you would move on to Realistic Fiction? Is anyone doing this yet in their second grade class. How is it going? Any advice?
