I teach 4th, and in the past, 3rd. In 3rd, the children had to come up with an underwater story - could be complete with talking fish, mermaids, etc. The kids liked that. In 4th, the kids have to write about finding a Golden Key that can do anything the writer wants (turn back time, have people breathe under water, become president). There is a lot of room to elaborate with that idea. Good luck!

Every year, my students participate in Young Author's. Most of the stories are pretty boring and don't have a lot of meaning to them. Any ideas on how I can get my students to be more creative and come up with a more meaningful story?
