I am in my starting my 7th year as our K-8 school counselor. I taught in the classroom for 12 years before that. I still consider myself new at my position and am always learning. I want to make sure that I am available for our students. This year has had a rough start and we are trying to mend a lot of things that have been broken.

Well, I introduced myself before, but I'll do so again. I currently teach Gifted Elementary Pull-out, 1st through 5th grade. I am not only responsible for lesson planning and teaching; I also handle screening and referrals to the school psychologists, as well as writing IEPs and holding annual review and re-evaluation meetings. I am considering going back to school to pursue a new career as a school psychologist, but I still am not ready to commit to anything.

I am a regular poster on this board since I'm a school psychologist and looking at mental health and its relationship to education is a big part of my job. I was a teacher for about 10 years before I switched over to school psychology.

I hope that many lurkers start posting. I'd love to share my experiences with them if it makes their work day a little bit easier.

I don't usually do things like this, but I'd love to know who is here! So please let us know you're there. Lurkers, visitors, those just reading or passing through, and posting members-- would love to hear from everyone! I see lots of "reads" on each post, so I'm happy there are others out there joining us!

So who is here? (If you haven't already introduced yourself in the other thread, would also love to know what you teach!)
