An electrician who observed that you have an old house which may mean more extensive wiring needs in the future. Not to discount the possibility that he's also probably an honest contractor and a good guy, but my family is full of men in the building trades (including electricians) and I know how they think.

Hang on to that electrician's card!

Very nice!

I once called an electrician to put in GFI outlets in my garage and to investigate a front porch light that didn't work.

He advised me that since the garage was dry and I rarely use the outlets in there, I could reasonably decide not to put in the GFIs right away.

Then he checked the light. Determined that it was working...I was using dh's stash of burned out light bulbs (that he was saving for recycle day) to try to replace the bulb.

He didn't charge me anything!

Moral: Always call former students when you need work done.

Turned off the cellar light and heard a loud pop. Light stopped working. Inspected the switch and the underside was black.

Was it just the switch or was the wiring involved? No idea. So I figured we needed an electrician to look at it (old house)

Got a recommendation. Called him. Explained the problem. And he came.

It was just the switch. Took about 5 minutes to inspect and fix. He said just pay me $50 (instead of $125 service call) since it was such a short fix.

Iím still in shock. Who charges less!!
