Sounds like the five-day treatments aren't enough. My grandmother was also put on a low-dose antibiotic as a preventative measure. I'm sorry your mom is suffering - they are just the WORST.

She has been given 2 rounds. Each round was 2 a day for 5 days. There was a couple days between rounds.

I have to have 10 days of antibiotics to knock mine out. At first I was given 7 and they would come back.

My grandmother was also put on a low dose of antibiotics daily to help with the recurring UTIs. She was 94 at the time.

I take cranberry every single day, and it had definitely helped!

Yes, she is having a burning sensation when she urinates.

Thank you for all the advice. She did have a culture done and they found ecoli. Her doctor prescribed antibiotics. After she was finished the first round of antibiotics it returned. So he prescribed another round of the antibiotics. She finished those on Thursday and the urinary tract infection was back today. She gave another urinary sample today.
We are waiting for the results on that.

so the urologist put her on a low dose antibiotic (cephalaxin) that she takes every night to prevent them recurring. Knock on wood, so far it's worked.

Are they doing cultures to be sure the antibiotics they’re prescribing are the “right” ones?

My mom had persistent UTIs, too and the only thing that would clear them up for a significant amount of time was high doses of IV antibiotics. At the end of her life, even those were losing effectiveness. Over the counter AZO helped some, too.

If you’re not working with a urologist, I’d definitely find one.

My mom was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. However, after finishing two doses of antibiotics it has returned.
Any suggestions? She took another Urine test today.
