I use ribbon for garland on my tree. It's a 9-foot tree and takes 3 rolls of ribbon. I use thick ribbon.....maybe 3 inches wide, I think. I start at the top of the tree. As I wind the ribbon around the tree, I twist it randomly. It always looks nice. I think it's a rather forgiving decoration.

I do a big red bow which trails down tree. Will post a photo when I get it up next weekend!

When I did ribbon as garland I used a lighter weight ribbon. It was also about 1-1 1/2 inches wide. I would drape it loosely on the tree. My mom does ribbon and she starts at the top and letís it fall vertically. It also is a thinner ribbon and holds a curl. Her tree is tall and skinny. This year I want to use ribbon as my topper. I think Iím going to use a thicker velvet ribbon. Iím excited!

My DYI DD#2 did a tree one year with ribbons cascading down from the top. Wish I had a picture to show you. Think ski runs... Her decorations were lift tickets tied with with red gingham bows and twinkle lights. Tried to find it on her Pinterest. The ribbons were silky white with silver along the edge the kind with bendable wire.
Anyway there are a tons of trees with ribbons on Pinterest.
