My school has been given some money (~$3000) to be used on K-3 reading technology. Our K-3 has a total of 8 classrooms. Do you have any suggestions for something we could purchase that could used somehow in reading K-3?

A couple pieces of info:

  • We are not a 1:1 school but we do have about 60 Chromebooks that these classes use. (Our kindergarten team refuses to use any technology but still need to be considered. There’s always hope )
  • We do not have a computer lab or library.
  • We do not have many subscriptions to things that we have to pay for. My principal is quite frugal so if we purchase a subscription to something we most likely wouldn’t have access after one year.

Thanks for any ideas you may have!

One of my student project lessons utilized an app called Little Bird Tales.

Also Imagine Forest has story starters.

I am a preservice teacher trying to learn all I can about remote classes and content
Flipped classrooms, etc.

I had to laugh at this. I WISH I could refuse! I'd love to get rid of all of our ipads...

Doc cams are a great suggestion. Otherwise we use Lexia, but it's pretty pricey and needs to be updated yearly. Lakeshore has some great phonics/phonemic awareness listening centers that I would love to have. Otherwise I don't know - again, I prefer hands-on games and activities to technology any day.

What about listening centers? Students could listen to stories read to them. Perfect for k!

Do you all have document cameras? Even K teachers could use these.

K teachers REFUSE? I donít think this would be tolerated in my district.
